DEVELOPMENT COACHING – THE PROGRAMME

PREPARATION

  • Written preparation: completed before Meeting 1


MEETING 1 (about two hours)

  • exploring current situation, strengths and past successes
  • identifying current key challenges
  • agreeing goals for coaching, for example:
    • to develop ways of managing an important relationship more effectively
    • to improve performance and ‘impact’ in meetings
    • to be better at resolving conflict
    • to get better results from the team
    • to manage pressure more successfully
    • to make better use of my creativity at work
    • to effect a smooth transition to a new role or assignment
  • Agreeing and preparing for 360 degree feedback and other questionnaires


COMPLETION OF QUESTIONNAIRES

  • Allow up to half a day, completed at a time convenient to you


MEETING 2 (about 3 hours)

  • In-depth discussion of 360 degree feedback and other questionnaires
    (tape recorded, if desired).
  • written and face-to-face feedback on key competencies:
    • leadership – establishing direction and purpose
    • managing and developing others
    • commercial and customer focus
    • working with others
    • achieving results
    • influencing and communicating
    • problem solving and decision making
  • exploration of strengths, weaknesses and development areas
  • agreeing initial ideas for development

MEETINGS 3 and 4 (up to two hours each)

  • reflecting on what has been covered thus far in coaching
  • clarifying and agreeing development priorities examining ideas for optimising strengths, ( eg in managing key relationships, meeting current challenges)
  • visioning future success
  • identifying resources and obstacles for achieving success
  • setting short-term goals to achieve success
  • agreeing action steps, including gaining key stakeholders’ ‘buy-in’ (eg boss, business sponsor)

  • specific skills coaching


MEETING 5 (up to 2 hours)

  • review of progress
  • celebrating success: what worked and how did it come about
  • maintaining momentum
  • specific skills coaching: building on success and managing setbacks
  • agreeing further 360 degree feedback, to validate progress

Subsequent coaching sessions last from 11/2 –2 hours. Five meetings, plus time taken to complete any questionnaires, are included in the initial contract. Further meetings may be arranged as required.
