Narrative Approaches to Career Coaching
Helping your clients to create compelling stories
This one day Masterclass will equip you to help your cleints create compelling narratives about the threads running through their career, and so enable them to be more effective in considering future direction, and communicating that vision to others.
Who for?
- All career coaches and other trained coaches interested in career narratives and using them as a means to help clients make sense of their life, past, current and future career
- HR/ Learning and Development practitioners/Talent Managers/Line managers/team leaders: for use in career development and career management within organisations and helping people exit organisations more positively ( enable them to have a clearer perspective on their career history and future story)
- Educationalists: help school leavers make sense of where they are and where they want to be.
We are opening this event to non CCS Alumni, so please pass on information to anyone you think might be interest.
What will you take away from the day?
- Set of tools to elicit career stories from self, clients, colleagues, and staff
- Understanding of career narrative theory and its main proponents
- Understanding of career narrative's uses and its relevance to modern "boundaryless" careers
What will we do on the day?
- Try out a variety of "tools" such as Chapter titles, Clean Language to draw out career stories
- Practise using own or supplied career narratives to assess clients
- Practise using tools to draw out future narratives
- Discussion and debate throughout .

Tutor: Helen Slingsby is a career coach and a writing coach whose clients span media, business and the public sector. She has been practising for five years and was previously a newspaper business journalist. Her coaching style is dynamic and insightful. She works quickly with her varied client base to reach helpful, creative and, often, life changing solutions.
She has an MSc Career Management and Counselling, Birkbeck College, London University.
